On June 4, the convergence reports of the European Central Bank and the European Commission were published, according to which Bulgaria meets the criteria for joining the euro area from January 1, 2026.
The European Commission recommended that the Council of the European Union approve the admission of our country to the euro area from the beginning of next year.
The European Central Bank also gave a positive assessment of our country in terms of fulfilling the criteria for joining the euro area.
On July 8, 2025, the Council of the European Union made the final decision on Bulgaria's admission to the eurozone.
On January 1, 2026, the euro was officially introduced in Bulgaria, with the lev being converted at the fixed rate of 1.95583 levs per 1 euro.
